Canada’s iconic Victory Nickel reissued for the 75th anniversary of VE Day

The year 2020 marked the 75th Anniversary of VE Day, the day which signalled the end of World War II in Europe and brought long awaited peace to our nation.

And now over 70 years later the Royal Canadian Mint have brought back to life their famous Victory Nickel on a modern day tribute.

Originally struck from 1943 to 1945 as a piece of propaganda to promote the Canadian war effort, it's a fitting way to commemorate this significant anniversary.

Legendary coin  V for Victory

The Canadians were the first to mint a military themed coin for WWII. It was iconic because of the V for Victory design, inspired by the V for Victory campaign endorsed by Churchill.

So, staying true to the original, the reverse features a flaming torch inside a “V” that at once both symbolises Victory and the denomination of the coin. It’s even struck from pure bronze as a nostalgic nod to the tombac used to strike the original nickels.

What’s more, if you look closely at the rim of the coin you’ll notice an updated bilingual version of the hidden message that appeared on the original coin in Morse code: we win when we work willingly.

All 8,000 coins SOLD OUT at the Mint

Unsurprisingly, the entire worldwide edition limit of 8,000 coins has COMPLETELY SOLD OUT at the Royal Canadian Mint! This rapid sell-out shows that VE Day commemoratives are in high demand.

The faithful reproduction is sure to be sought-out by keen collectors of military commemoratives and historians alike in years to come.

Limited number available for UK collectors

The fact that this issue is completely sold out at the Mint means we've managed to secure what we anticipate are the last available coins on the market and we suspect very few outside the limited number sourced will make their way to the UK.

You can secure one of the coins available for JUST £15 (+p&p) followed by four further interest-free instalments – the most affordable way to secure such a significant commemorative.

If you would like to honour the brave soldiers of World War II by adding this coin to your collection, please do not delay. Remember, this coin is sold out at the Mint, making your chances of securing one incredibly limited.

Avoid disappointment by clicking 'Add to Basket' today to secure yours.
