10th Anniversary: Historic BREXIT 50p Pair
Marking 10 Years Since the EU Referendum
On 23rd June 2016, the British public voted to leave the European Union in one of the most significant moments in modern British history.
Four years later, on 31st January 2020, Britain officially departed the European Union. And The Royal Mint released a special commemorative 50p to mark the historic occasion.
But this isn’t the first time Britain’s relationship with Europe has been commemorated on coins.
Which is why, for the 10th anniversary of the referendum, you have the chance to own the FIRST EVER Commemorative 50p, issued back in 1973 to commemorate Britain's entry into the EEC, alongside the Brexit 50p!
The FIRST-EVER COMMEMORATIVE 50p
In 1973, Britain was finally successful in its attempts to join the European Economic Community, known as the EEC. And to mark this important moment, The Royal Mint issued a 50p to celebrate the UK’s accession.
This coin now stands as a hugely significant issue in British history, but it also stands as an extremely important numismatic release. That’s because it was the FIRST EVER commemorative 50p!
The Brexit 50p
The Brexit 50p is sure to become one of the most important issues in British history.
The final design features the inscription ‘Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations’ and the historic date 31st January 2020 – the date the UK officially left the European Union.
