The Victory Parade Silver Proof £5 Coin

On 8th June 1946, London witnessed one of the greatest celebrations in British history.

More than 30,000 servicemen and women from Britain, the Commonwealth and Allied nations marched through the capital in the historic Victory Parade, watched by hundreds of thousands of spectators lining the streets and millions more following the celebrations across the nation.

It was the moment a grateful country came together to honour the courage, sacrifice and unity that had secured victory in the Second World War.

Despite its immense historical importance, this defining event has never before been commemorated on a British Isles coin.

Until now.

Issued to mark the 80th Anniversary of the 1946 Victory Parade, this magnificent Silver Proof £5 Coin is the first ever coin to commemorate this historic occasion.

Expertly struck from Sterling Silver to the highest Proof standard, the design centres on King George VI saluting the servicemen and women who marched through London on that historic day.

Above, Lancaster bombers pay tribute to the Royal Air Force, while the marching troops below honour the British Army. King George VI, shown in his Royal Navy uniform, also recognises the bravery of Britain's naval forces and the Allied fleets.

Completing the design is the poignant inscription, "TODAY, AS WE CELEBRATE VICTORY", taken from King George VI's personal message to Britain's schoolchildren during the Victory celebrations.

A prestigious commemorative of exceptional craftsmanship, this limited-edition issue is a fitting tribute to the generation whose courage secured freedom.
